After 11 months, 5 billion in flora exports for the Dutch

For the first time in the history of flower and plant export from The Netherlands, an annual turnover of 5 billion euros has been realized while the December month is yet to be included. That remarkable fact is reported by the Flowers and Plants-subdivision of the Dutch Agricultural Wholesale Board.

The export value of Dutch cut flowers grew by 5% in the strong November month, to a total of more than 3 billion euros. A 3% increase in the export value of pot and garden plants put that category’s sales total at approximately 2 billion euros, making for the landmark total of 5 billion.

The trends of the past months have largely been holding as well: Eastern Europe is reporting the largest growth in flora imports (albeit slowing down slightly) while Southern Europe steadily keeps declining. Key markets England and Germany are also performing well.

Worries do remain regarding the limited revenues which many market parties are realizing (margins remain small), as well as about the increased competition and the limited breadth of the Dutch supply, the HBAG signals. /source
